Regal’s Spotlight: An Interview with an Incubus

I recently “sat down” with Regal, a character from Dani Cojo’s upcoming novel The Art of Falling.  This is one interesting guy!

Dani Cojo is an aspiring author with an expansive library of novels that have yet to be written. An avid reader herself, she hopes that her stories will give book-lovers the escape that they crave, and book-loathers the exciting and unyielding desire to read a book from start to finish in one sitting. As a twenty-something millennial with big dreams, Dani lives at home with her parents and two cats in Macomb County, Michigan.

What kind of music do you like? Who’s your favorite musician/band?
What’s your favorite song?

I have a wide taste in music; you have to when you’re luring in humans to their demise for a living. What I listen to when I’m alone? I don’t necessarily have a favorite, but my friend, Etoile, introduced me to Panic! at the Disco when their new album came out. He gave me a copy of the CD that he swiped from his job. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and find myself listening to the album on repeat when I’m at home. The songs and music are good, but the singer’s voice sounds like sex and that’s something I can relate to. My favorite song right now is probably Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time, or Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off.

What is your favorite meal?

I prefer mythos souls over human souls, particularly the fae-folk. They taste like tea and honey, and the magic in their aura tingles as it is sucked – oh, you mean human food.  Well, that’s boring. I don’t need to eat human food to survive. However, the most delicious thing I have ever eaten is a cheeseburger from Sonic Drive-in. I can see why many humans indulge in fast food and fall to gluttony so easily.

Who is your hero? Why?

Demons don’t have “heroes.” If we had to choose, it would either be Lucifer or Satan, depending on which side of history you’re on. But my hero is Etoile. Lucifer may have been in charge of the army that stopped Satan’s uprising, but Etoile was the one who saved Lucifer’s life. He deserves more praise than he gets.

Are you the strong hero-type or just a normal guy next door?

Ha, normal. I already have the ability to fly, walk through dreams, steal souls, and occasionally command hellfire at will. What else would I possibly need?

What is your favorite book?

While I’m not much of a reader, I have read quite a few books that give me topics to talk about when courting the bookish types. I am more fond of classics, such as The Lord of the Flies, 1984, or The Scarlet Letter. You know, high school books that everyone has read. Oh, and many women love a man who agrees that Fifty Shades of Gray was amazing. “Yes, of course I would be open to trying BDSM!” They’re so gullible.

If you had a pet, what would it be?

One that didn’t require much care, like a fish or turtle. Just throw in some food and you’re fine.

Where would you take your honey for a date?

Dates are just a vehicle used to finally have sex with someone, which leads to me sucking out one’s life force from their body. However, one “date” that I went on that didn’t end in stealing a soul was a trip to see waterfalls up in northern Michigan. It was actually pleasant, despite the headache of being outdoors. I would much rather go out to a nightclub or concert. Someplace loud, dark, and filled with people.

What kind of movies do you like?
Who do you take along? What do you get from the concession stand?

I actually enjoy the movies quite a bit. It’s a great place to get away from the world for a few hours, go on a “date,” or pick up someone new. I typically watch horror movies, as I find it more amusing to see others get scared by something fictional when they are so close to something that could actually hurt them. If I had to bring someone, I would bring Etoile. He’s a huge fan of movies and other nerd culture, and we’d probably see some action or superhero film. I don’t typically get food when I go, but Etoile always gets the jumbo popcorn with extra butter and ranch seasoning.

Describe your perfect day.

My perfect day would be sleeping in until sunset, going out to a club to get some drinks, picking up a stranger, and then stealing their soul after a night of sex. Fast paced, fun, and productive.
